History and Demographics

Nicaragua was a piece of land with many different indigenous groups like the Miskito group who were one of the biggest reasons that Nicaragua is no longer a colony and is an independent country. The indigenous people ran the land until they were colonized by Spain and Spanish soldier Pedro Arias Dávila who led the journey to Nicaragua alongside his army of ten thousand to twenty thousand people. Even though Pedro Arias Dávila led his army to Nicaragua, he was not the one who gained control and he did not have control for ten years before he decided to kill the person in charge because he felt he deserved it more. The Spanish had the land from 1524 all the way to 1811 with no controversy except for when Nicaragua became independent because of a rebellion inspired by similar ones in Mexico and El Salvador. The indigenous people used the knowledge of their land and each other to help get the Spanish out of their land. During this period of time that Nicaragua was colonized, there were many different people in charge and all of them died of natural causes except the one who was murdered by Pedro Arias Dávila. Nicaragua has one of the smallest number of 1st generation immigrants in the world with less than 1 percent. This is because Nicaragua is bordered by two oceans and only two countries, and one of the borders between two countries is a river so there are only three ways to enter Nicaragua. One of the ways is to go by boat and enter through the ocean, another way is to fly to the only airport in the entire country, or to go through Honduras. Since there are not many immigrants, many people of Nicaragua descend from Europe (Spain) or are of Indigenous descent. Nicaragua has an exciting history with many different leaders and fearless individuals. Nicaragua was founded in 1821.
